The History of the South Portland Relay
After the 2006 Relay For Life in Falmouth, we had grown so large that we knew
that this area could easily add another Relay For Life event, and both would be
tremendously successful. So, we decided to split into two Relays. One
would stay in Falmouth (although that Relay is now held in Windham), and a new
one would be "born". We just had to find a great location for it.
Thankfully, the South Portland High School graciously offered to let us hold our
new Relay there, and in June 2007, the first annual American Cancer Society
Relay For Life of South Portland was held!
In a very short time, we've already become one of the largest, top-fundraising
Relays in Maine, and with the help of such a great community, we know we're
going to keep growing!
To track our success through the years, we're going to list below how many teams we've had and how many dollars we've raised to fight cancer
with each passing year. It's exciting to see these numbers and
realize that we've all played a part in making a difference in Maine. How
soon do you think our one "little" Relay will reach one million dollars raised?
