Buying Luminaria Online

Starting with the 2010 Relay season, people will be able to visit individual and team fundraising pages on the online registration and fundraising site, buy luminaria, and the individual and the team will get credit for the money raised.  That hasn't been the case in prior Relay seasons.  The money donated for luminaria would show up as general donations to the event, and no individual or team would get credit for raising that money.

So, as part of your fundraising efforts, be sure to let people know that they can buy luminaria online if they choose.  All they have to do is:

1. Go to any individual's fundraising page (or team's page if they'd like to donate to the team instead of any one person).
2. Click on "Luminaria" instead of "Donate".
   
3. Fill out the required information.  In honor of, in memory of, etc., and the name of the person you're honoring.  Please note that the message, closing, and signature need to be kept brief.
4. Add the luminaria to your cart and continue making donations or proceed to checkout.

At the Relay, we will provide each team captain with a list of luminaria purchased online for their team members.  It will then be up to the team captain, or a team representative, to create and decorate the luminaria, place it on the track, and read the name when they are called to read their team's luminaria during the luminaria ceremony Friday night.

If anyone who buys a luminaria online would like to decorate their own bag prior to Relay, they can certainly do so, or they can let team representative(s) do it for them.  Luminaria order forms are available on this website.  On the left-hand side, where payment information is requested, indicate it was purchased online and be sure to write the name of the person you are honoring on the bottom part of this side.  The right-hand side of the form is what gets attached to the luminaria bags we place around the track, and many people choose to decorate this side of the form very creatively.  So if you'd like to decorate your own, although you don't have to, you certainly can.  Just remember to turn in your luminaria form to someone on the team so they can bring it to Relay and put it on your bag.
